A panel of seasoned experts, including Chris Townsend, Alex Roddie, Francesca Donovan, and more, embarked on extensive testing across the UK’s stunning landscapes, from the Cairngorms to North Wales and the Lake District. Their thorough evaluations encompassed day hikes, winter campouts, multi-day treks, and more. The winners represent the pinnacle of outdoor equipment, setting new standards for safety, performance, and innovation.

LifeSaver Wayfarer: The Epitome of Safety and Innovation

In a category filled with notable contenders, the LifeSaver Wayfarer emerged as the undisputed champion. The Wayfarer is a compact and powerful water purifier, weighing in at just 323g. What sets it apart is its unwavering commitment to safety, validated by testing that surpasses NSF/ANSI P231 standards—a certification known for its stringent evaluation of water purifiers.

Alex Roddie, one of the judges, couldn’t help but highlight the Wayfarer’s unique selling point: “I like the fact that it’s actually been tested to official standards, unlike any other hiking-marketed filter/purifier I’m aware of.” This award is particularly satisfying given it specifically focuses on Safety, which affirms our claim that the Wayfarer is the ‘Safest Hiking Water Purifier”.

What’s more, the Wayfarer doesn’t just excel in safety; it’s also impressively compact and reasonably priced. Will Renwick, another judge, pointed out, “This is smaller and lighter than most purifiers I know, and it’s also priced lower than a lot of them too.” It’s a product that proves you don’t have to sacrifice safety for portability or affordability.

Two-Stage Filtration: The Wayfarer utilises a two-stage filtration process. The first of which is the Ultrafiltration (UF) Cartridge which removes bacteria, viruses and protozoa from up to 5,000 litres of water. This is followed by the Activated Carbon Filter which reduces various chemicals and heavy metals, as well as enhancing taste and odour. These are effective up to 100 litres.
Replaceable Filters: Once the UF Cartridge stops allowing water through, it can be easily replaced, ensuring long-lasting performance. The Activated Carbon Filter is also replaceable.
Scavenger Hose and Pump: Designed for convenience, the Wayfarer includes a Scavenger In Hose and built-in pump for easy purification.
