Prioritise hydration during the winter months with the LifeSaver® Liberty™

Staying well hydrated is crucial to maintaining your health, particularly when exercising. However, while we tend to prioritise drinking enough water in hot weather, many of us overlook the importance of staying hydrated during the colder months of the year1. Even though your thirst response diminishes because of the low temperature1, harsh winter weather will your leave body dehydrated, which can reduce your body’s resistance to viruses as it dries out the mucous membranes. Our portable LifeSaver® Liberty™ water filtration bottle has the ability to remove a minimum of 99.99% of dangerous viruses, bacteria and cysts from water sourced from streams, lakes, fountains or even dodgy looking taps. This ensures you will always have access to safe, purified drinking water when out exercising, helping you to look after your health and boost your performance this winter3.

The World Health Organisation4 has outlined the importance of staying hydrated as part of its advice in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, but mountaineers, skiers and rock climbers should be particularly conscious of maintaining their hydration levels. High altitudes cause you to become dehydrated at a faster rate than normal5, which means you can get to a critical stage of dehydration much earlier. In addition to the impact this can have on your immune system, dehydration causes muscle fatigue2, leaves you out of puff as your red blood cells struggle to collect enough oxygen6, and can impair your cognitive function7, which could put your life at risk when negotiating particularly difficult routes.

Around the size of a standard sports water bottle, our LifeSaver® Liberty™ bottle ensures you can stay hydrated to maintain peak health and performance. It’s incredibly easy to use, simply scoop water up through the bottom of the Liberty™, pump its base a couple of times and release the top valve. Clean, purified water will be released from the SteriTouch® drinking spout at the top of the bottle – there’s no strenuous sucking, chemicals or waiting around for treatments involved. Between rest breaks, the Liberty’s 400ml capacity will help maintain healthy hydration levels during your workouts this winter, and you can top up when you come to the next water source.

The Liberty™ also doubles up as a fast in-line filter, so in addition to drinking directly from the bottle itself, you can screw it onto other wide mouthed water containers, such as Nalgenes or Hydro Flask bottles, and fill these with purified water. A five foot scavenger hose makes it possible to access harder to reach water sources and, if you’re taking your efforts up a gear, this fully featured bottle even has the option of an attachment (sold separately) to make it easy to fill a hydration bladder.

Two transparent side windows allow users to keep track of water remaining and the LifeSaver® Liberty™ boasts a high-capacity filter which is capable of treating up to an incredible 2,000 litres of water. For added peace of mind, all LifeSaver® products feature the company’s FailSafe technology. Once the pores in the filter’s membrane are blocked, it no longer allows water to pass through. This eliminates any guesswork or the risk of mistakenly drinking unfiltered water.
